The Affordable Care Act... An Empty Promise

Well, dear reader... the day has come.

Today, March 31, is the final day to enroll in the Affordable Care Act. By final day, I mean that the government will no longer subsidize premiums for plans under this law after midnight tonight. It will be interesting to see what the official enrollment will be after all the dust settles. Well, interesting may be a misnomer. It will be entertaining to see the fall out of this legislature's failure.

There are many specific examples of Obamacare's failure (all lies if you buy what Harry Reid says), but I think what bothers me most about Obamacare is the complete lack of substance it contains. The rallying cry for Obama and his supporters has been, "We believe that affordable health care in this country is a right for all citizens!' How nice. It's a beautiful sentiment really. Swept up in their love for a progressive president and his 'miss-america-esque' promises, the liberals passed the Affordable Care Act. They passed it without any idea of how to implement it, but can you blame them? I wouldn't have wanted to read something that long. I think Nancy Pelosi said it best when she said, "We have to pass it to see what is in it." Really?!

So began the trainwreck of the implementation of Obamacare. I won't cite all the individual failures of this law -- they are readily available to view on Al Gore's amazing internet -- but what blows my mind is that Obamacare is still somehow being claimed as a success! Let's start with enrollment. Estimates varied on how many people would enroll in Obamacare, but the most commonly stated number is 7 million. Now, the liberals have no idea how many people have really signed up. They have their estimates of course (and you can bet that after today the number will somehow, magically, reach the 7 million mark), but no one really knows how many Americans are enrolled. So once again, no sustainable evidence to show any success.

We DO know some numbers of course. Should we start with the fact that only 27% of Obamacare enrollees were previously uninsured? How about with the 800,000 people who haven't paid their first premium? Or maybe we should lead with the fact that over half of the people in this country uninsured do not support Obamacare? Pick your favorite; there are plenty more.

So what do conservatives and reasonable people plan to do about the Affordable Care Act. The democrats (and some republicans for that matter) are all about "fixing" the law, or "working out the tweaks." I believe we should repeal it in it's entirety. I even think it would be in the democrat's best interest to do so. If Obamacare continues to show it's ineffectiveness, and I have little doubt that it will do so, then maybe we have a chance to retake control of the senate and find a way to survive Mr. Obama's final two years in office. Some democrats are realizing this and trying to slink away before people remember that they supported this law. My dear reader, we cannot allow them to do this.

I won't often rail on Obamacare, because enough has been said about it by many people many times before me. Today has been an exception based on the significance today bears on the law. If you have Obamacare, good luck to you my friend. I really hope it works out. If not, let's not sit by any longer and let this administration continue to blind the American public with false promises. We owe it to ourselves and future generations.

What it is... and What it is Not

In order to save your time, and in order to let you know immediately whether this blog will interest you, I will define it as simply as I can... The posts that follow are my opinions on matters of faith, family, and country. To define it even more simply, they are my OPINIONS. While I may posts facts, statistics, and evidence, all the conclusions that I draw from these will be mine alone, and I do not expect you to agree. In fact, I encourage you -- the reader -- to think for yourself and to engage me in debate should you find it worth your while.

Now that I have defined, very generally, this blog through what it IS... I will further define it through what it is not. It is NOT an outlet for hate. It is NOT an outlet for racism. It is NOT an outlet for rants against people with different beliefs than mine. I support free thinking and courteous, rational debate based on facts -- not on personal attacks on character. I am pledging to you -- dear reader -- that I will hold myself to this standard. If I do not, please, I invite you to call me out! I will personally apologize. That being said, I expect the same of my readers (if it turns out that anyone may be interested). We will NOT invoke personal attacks. We will NOT let our opinions lead us to hate each other. We will NOT forsake the forgotten etiquette of political discourse. If we can do this, then I believe that you and I both -- dear reader -- can benefit from each other.

I am a conservative. I am a republican. I am a Lutheran. I am also a husband, father, son, friend, and proud American. I am sure that my readers are honest, genuine, people with sincere beliefs of their own. If we disagree, that does not make us enemies. Please! Let's find some common ground.

Stay tuned friends...

Andrew
